Evangelism must be a way of life for youth and young adults who have experienced salvation and are awaiting with hope the Second Coming of Christ. This is the reason why, the Adventist Youth Ministries Department in Greater New York works hard to make Evangelism more than just an expensive event that happens once or twice a year at our local church with our pastor or a great guest speaker.
Evangelism is the inevitable lifestyle of teens and young adults who are passionately in love with Jesus; teens and young adults who are disciples of Jesus with the same priorities of Jesus, and who exist to share Him with others and make more disciples.
If teens and young adults are in love with Jesus, have an assurance of their salvation, and have the certainty of the return of Jesus, there is no reason why they cannot be great evangelists for the Jesus. Evangelism as a lifestyle is the most effective way of evangelism there is.
But what is it? It is teens and young adults who are constantly connected with Jesus, hang out with Him, and live out their relationship with Him at home, school, office, workplace, gym, and just about anywhere they are. Teens and young adults who are not afraid to live out loud what they believe. Teens and young adults who are not afraid to share their testimony with a relative, school mate, co-worker, or a stranger who asks in the train, street, restaurant, or stadium.
How much do I need to know in order to share Jesus? Though it is important to know Jesus well and what the Bible says about Him, there are plenty of instances in the Bible, in which people with a very limited knowledge of God were very successful sharing Him. What did they do? They just shared their testimony. “This is who I was before I met Jesus, this is what He has done for me and my life.” Living and sharing your personal testimony with someone can be one of the most powerful ways to give the hope of Jesus to others.
There are many other ways and methods to share Jesus, but it all usually begins with someone who cares and makes a personal connection. Nothing can or will replace the human touch and the personal connection.
