Note for Master Guide Candidates in Greater New York

Note for Master Guide Candidates in Greater New York

1/5/09

Dear Master Guide Candidate:

I would like to congratulate you, as you have chosen to dedicate this year to further prepare yourself and improve your skills as a leader, in the Master Guide Class of the Greater New York Conference. Always keep in mind that though patches and pins are wonderful and important, the main priority of your training is to get better prepared to reach kids and youth for Jesus and to help them to become Disciples of Christ with the same priorities of Christ. During 2009 our theme is: “Be the Bridge…Love, Pray, Study, & Witness.”

Anyone participating in the Master Guide Class of the Greater New York Conference knows that this is serious business; it is very serious because once you finish the course, complete all the requirements, turn in your complete binder (which comprises theory and practice you received during the year), pass the test, and receive your diploma, you are an officially recognized Leader for kids, teens, and adults in the Greater New York Conference and all over the world. This is why we are so strict with this program.

I am taking the time to write to you because you are very important; your local church needs you, our Conference needs you, thousands of kids and youth growing up in Greater New York need you, and you are the hope for millions of people who walk through our streets every day. More than anything God has chosen to finish the Preaching of the Gospel through people like you, who work together with previous generation to proclaim “The Advent Message to all the World in Our Generation.”

Together, with your instructor, we would like for you to do well. Keep in mind the following pointers:

1. All of the Classes and Instructors are appointed and will be announced by the Director of Adventist Youth Ministries. If the Class has not been officially announced, it is not an official class of the Greater New York Conference Adventist Youth Ministries Department.

2. The Classes will be approved within the next few days; a document including all of the official classes will be sent to each one of you and will be posted on our website.

3. Check the website, www.gnycyouth.com for Guidelines and overall information on the Master Guide Program. Guidelines apply to all the classes and Instructors the same.

4. The Master Guide schools from every area, combined, make up the one and only Greater New York Conference Master Guide Class which will be invested in November 21, 2009

5. Each Instructor is authorized by the Adventist Youth Ministries Department to teach in his/her school/location. It has been voted by our Master Guide Advisory, for several years now, that each Instructor will teach in his/her assigned geographical area, not in the areas assigned to other instructors. Our Instructors are team players.

6. Master Guide Candidates are free to attend the school of their choice, with the instructor of their choice.

7. Master Guide Candidates must be taught by one of the Greater New York official Instructors at his/her official school/area in order to be eligible for Investiture. Candidates must be part of a school; we believe that class interaction with other Candidates is indispensable in the formation of Youth Leaders. Independent or self taught Master Guide Candidates will not be accepted for Investiture.

8. Participation in the 2009 Master Guide Dedication Ceremony is a requisite for Investiture in our Conference. Individuals who do not participate in the 2009 Master Guide Dedication Ceremony are not eligible to march or get invested in November, 2009. *Only exception would be for someone who has already participated in the Dedication Service within the last two years (2007 or 2008).

9. Please, check the Binder Index, it is the Official Binder Index for Master Guide Candidates in Greater New York, your Binder must be completed, by October 25, 2009. Late and incomplete Binders will not be accepted. Follow, the Binder Index provided on our website, www.gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/202/1/11/13/11/ . Changes and Improvements for the Binder Index, are voted by our Master Guide, PLA, PIA Instructors Advisory; each Instructor has the responsibility to inform his/her class of the changes, they will also be posted on the website.

10. Both, the Pathfinder Basic Staff Training (PBST) and the Adventurer Basic Staff Training (ABST), taught by the Greater New York Conference Adventist Youth Ministries Department, must be completed by the candidate prior to investiture.

11. The PBST will be offered during the Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress, January 23-25, 2009 at the Stamford Hilton Hotel, Stamford, Connecticut.

12. The ABST will be offered during the weekend of February 7-8, 2009. Place TBA.

13. Each Class must participate in the wilderness camping weekend, guidelines for the Wilderness Camping Experience are provided in the website: www.gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/203/1/11/13/11/

14. Financial guidelines regarding charges for the Master Guide Classes are posted in the Master Guide Section of our website, www.gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/204/1/11/13/11/

15. Dues collected for class operation, snacks, and handouts, by the Instructor are for the use and expenses of the local school. Those dues do not come to the Conference Office.

16. The Instructor is responsible to collect the money for the purchase of honors, insignias, sashes, pins and other Master Guide Class related paraphernalia.

17. The Instructor is responsible to bring the money for the purchase of Master Guide related paraphernalia to the Adventist Youth Ministries Department Office.

18. When the money is brought to the office, the Adventist Youth Ministries Department Office is responsible to provide the items that are paid for, so the Instructor can take them to the candidates who paid for them.

19. Each Master Guide school will be visited by a group of Master Guide Instructors throughout the year. The purpose of the visit is to establish cooperation, improve quality, and confirm unity of direction throughout the schools in the Greater New York Conference Master Guide Class.

20. At this point, Potential Instructors for 2009 are in the process of applying to teach, submitting a list of their staff, a written agreement promising to abide by the guidelines and regulations of the Greater New York Conference Adventist Youth Ministries Department, and to work with a team spirit. They must also submit a syllabus/class schedule for the entire year. The classes will not meet till they are officially approved, once they are approved, you will be notified via E-mail and through our Adventist Youth Ministries Website, www.gnycyouth.com.

Once each Instructor is appointed and each class approved, I have asked each instructor to share this note with his/her Master Guide Candidates. However, I wanted to make it accessible to you as well. If you have questions, comments, or concerns in regards to the way your class is being taught or led, you can direct them in writing to me. My E-mail address is provided below.
