1. Adventist Youth Ministries Day of Fasting & Prayer (Today, March 19, 2009): As it is announced in our calendar, we would like to continue our 2009 in touch with our Creator, Savior, & Friend Jesus. The point of Fasting is not to gain favor or merits for not eating. It’s rather to have more time and clarity of mind to spend more time with Jesus, it’s a way of humbling ourselves before Him and acknowledging that He is sufficient to bring resolution to life’s most difficult dilemmas. On this day you may substitute things you would usually do (out to lunch with your colleagues, special TV program, time with your IPod, Break at work, Recess at School) for time to talk to Jesus. For some practical ideas on Fasting & Prayer, please check the following links of our website: www.gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/776/1/136 or www.gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/801/1/183/10/183/.

3. Ice Skating (this Sunday, March 22, 2009 @ Wollman Rink, Central Park, New York): We’ll begin at 10:00 AM. More than 1,500 Adventist Young Adults, Youth, Pathfinders, Adventurers, and of course, adults will gather at Wollman Rink, in Central Park for this great event. The place is big, the price is great, the fellowship is awesome, and it is a great opportunity to make a positive statement in a public place on behalf of our church. Everyone is invited; this is an excellent outreach opportunity, you can invite your non-Adventist friends, neighbors, school and work colleagues. A nice way to teach them that, we, Seventh-day Adventist live a happy, balanced, and spiritual life and that healthy recreation is a part of that.

The prices are: $7.00 for Admission and $5.00 for skates. Pre-registration is not needed in order to come to the event. You can just show up and we’ll take good care of you. For more info, address, public transport, and flyer place check our website, www.gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/421/1/138.

4. Jamaica Mission Trip REGISTRATION ASAP (April 5-11, 2009): Registrations are coming in for our first Mission Trip of this year. If you are planning to go on this trip, you must send in your registration ASAP, since the trip will be taking place in a few weeks.

This trip is for Young Adults, College University Students, and of course we will not turn down a teen or an adult wanting to go. The Mission is open for Missionaries wanting to make a difference for the Lord outside of our US boundaries. We will work in partnership with the Central Jamaica Conference Youth Department in the Infirmary and the communities of Spanish Town.

The cost of the Trip is $1285.00 and includes: Airfare, Food, Lodging, local transportation, T-shirt, bottled water, and a donation towards the mission projects we will work on while there. Sightseeing trips, tours, and souvenirs, will be optional and will have an extra cost.

If there is someone who wishes to contribute to this trip with funds, Tax Deductible Donations are welcomed and needed. They will go directly and exactly to our mission projects. If you find people who are able to donate $1,000.00, $500.00, etc. The funds will be used to alleviate the needs of a deprived community in Spanish Town, Jamaica.

If you would like to participate in this trip, send the Registration Form with the down-payment for the trip to our Office. The AY Leader of each church has received the Registration Forms for all the Mission Trips as well as the flyers. You can also download the Registration Form and the Flyer at our website, the following link: http://gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/741/1/138.

5. Conference-wide Week of Youth Evangelism, Youth Day, and Youth Baptism (March 21-28, 2009 @ Each Local Church): Many churches will begin their week of Youth Evangelism this Sabbath. Other churches are in the middle of their youth evangelism this week, and several others have already done it.

If your church did not plan the Week of Youth Evangelism yet, it is not too late; we would like to encourage each church to participate in Youth Evangelism, even if it is done at another date. The week of Youth Evangelism will close with a Youth Day at each church and a youth baptism at each church. Remember, if you promote the baptism and the speakers make the appeals, the Holy Spirit will work and people will be baptized. A sermon presented by a young person can be of a tremendous influence in the life of other young people and in the life of an adult.

We would like to ask the Pastors and youth leaders to take action pictures during the week of evangelism, so we can post them on the website. If you have videos, please submit them to our office, we will put them on YouTube.

6. Youth Olympics Postponed: The Youth Olympics will be postponed. As soon as there is a date for this event, it will be announced.

7. Pastor Jose’s Travel Report: I’m back from the trip to Dominican Republic and Haiti. The objective of the trip was to finalize preparations for the upcoming Mission Trip to Dominican Republic, which will take place in July. For more info on this trip, please click on the following link: http://gnycyouth.com/article/articleview/813/1/138.

The next stop was the country of Haiti, where I was met by traveling companions Jean Joseph Lapierre (GNYC Pathfinder Coordinator), and Pastors Moab Honore (GNYC Franco-Haitian Coordinator) and Ruben Merino (GNYC Adventist Community Services Director). The goal for this leg of the trip was to search for a mission project in Haiti. During the trip our delegation visited Port Au Prince and the entire South of Haiti, where we explored several important projects. A project will be chosen and announced during the next few days. We have posted pictures and videos of the trips to Dominican Republic & Haiti on Facebook, check under Jose Joanne Cortes or in YouTube, check under GNYCYouth. Pastor Ruben Merino did an excellent job to document the trip through video and photographs. You can also click on the following links:
