Very Important Note to Master Guide Candidates in Greater New York Conference

Greater New York Conference of the Seventh-dayAdventistChurch

Adventist Youth Ministries Department

Note for Master Guide Candidates

3/13/08

Dear Master Guide Candidate:

I would like to congratulate you, as you have chosen to dedicate this year to further prepare yourself and improve your skills as a leader, in the Master Guide Class of the Greater New York Conference. Always keep in mind that though patches and pins are wonderful and important, the main priority of your training is to get better prepared to reach kids and youth for Jesus and to help them to become Disciples of Christ with the same priorities of Christ.

Anyone participating in the Master Guide Class of the Greater New York Conference knows that this is serious business; it is very serious because once you finish the course, turn in your complete binder, pass the test, and receive your diploma, you are an officially recognized Leader for kids, teens, and adults in the Greater New York Conference and all over the world. This is why we are so strict with this program.

In the past there have been candidates who don’t do well, just like last year there were over 30 who began the year as Candidates and never made it to Investiture. This is the reason why I’m taking the time to write to you, you are very important, our Conference needs you, and your church needs you. Together, with your instructor, we would like for you to do well. Keep in mind the following pointers:

1. Check the website, www.gnycyouth.com for Guidelines and overall information on the Master Guide Program.

2. There is only ONE Greater New York Conference Class that meets in several Master Guide schools/locations throughout the boroughs of New York City, Long Island, & Upstate.

3. There are 8 authorized and official Instructors for the Greater New York Class and they are: Ella Harriott (Bronx), John Rodriguez (Bronx Spanish), Chris Bramwell (Brooklyn), Jean Joseph Lapierre (Brooklyn French), Ramon Perez (Brooklyn Spanish), Grace Ann Ashley (Long Island), Pastor Juan Canas (Long Island Spanish), John Rodriguez (Manhattan), Grace Ann Ashley (Queens), Barbara Hyde (Upstate New York).

4. Each Instructor is authorized by the Adventist Youth Ministries Department to teach in his/her school/location. It has been voted by our Master Guide Advisory, for several years now, that each Instructor will teach in his/her assigned geographical area, not in the areas assigned to other instructors. Our Instructors are team players.

5. Master Guide Candidates are free to attend the school of their choice, with the instructor of their choice.

6. Master Guide Candidates must be taught by one of the Greater New York official Instructors at his/her official school/area in order to be eligible for Investiture. Candidates must be part of a school; we believe that class interaction with other Candidates is indispensable in the formation of Youth Leaders. Independent or self taught Master Guide Candidates will not be accepted for Investiture.

7. Participation in the 2008 Master Guide Dedication Ceremony is a requisite for Investiture in our Conference. Individuals who did not participate in the 2008 Master Guide Dedication Ceremony are not eligible to march or get invested in November, 2008.

8. Please, check the Binder Index, it is Official Binder Index for Master Guide Candidates in Greater New York, your Binder must be completed, by October 26, 2008. Late and incomplete Binders will not be accepted. Follow, the Binder Index provided at our website.

9. Both, the Pathfinder Basic Staff Training (PBST) and the Adventurer Basic Staff Training (ABST), taught by the Greater New York Conference Adventist Youth Ministries Department, must be completed by the candidate prior to investiture.

10. Financial guidelines regarding charges for the Master Guide Classes are posted in the Master Guide Section of our website, www.gnycyouth.com.

11. Dues collected for class operation, snacks, and handouts, by the Instructor are for the use and expenses of the local school. Those dues do not come to the Conference Office.

12. The Instructor is responsible to collect the money for the purchase of honors, insignias, sashes, pins and other Master Guide Class related paraphernalia.

13. The Instructor is responsible to bring the money for the purchase of Master Guide related paraphernalia to the Adventist Youth Ministries Department Office.

14. When the money is brought to the office, the Adventist Youth Ministries Department Office is responsible to provide the items that are paid for, so the Instructor can take them to the candidates who paid for them.

15. Each Master Guide school will be visited by a group of Master Guide Instructors throughout the year. The purpose of the visit is to establish cooperation, improve quality, and confirm unity of direction throughout the schools in the Greater New York Conference Master Guide Class.

I have asked each instructor to share this note with his/her Master Guide Candidates. However, I wanted to make it accessible to you as well. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, you can direct them in writing to me. My E-mail address is provided below.

Keep in touch, www.gnycyouth.com (website), ay@gnycyouth.com (Secretary’s new E-mail address), gnycyouth@aol.com (Pastor Jose’s E-mail address).

Many Blessings,

Jose
