The Youth, Teens, Young Adults, Young Professionals, College and University students in Greater New York have begun to use Small Groups as our top Evangelism method. Small Groups are effective because they create a friendly atmosphere where young people can bring their non-Christian friends and introduce them to their Christians friends, interact with them, hang out, sing, share their testimonies, study the Bible, and learn about God. Small Groups are perhaps one of the best atmospheres for a young person to make a decision for Christ in the company of friends.
Small Groups are vital to closing the back door of the church. When a Teen or a Young Adult is involved in ministry with friends, all of the sudden church becomes relevant; the small group becomes a family with the challenging mission of sharing Jesus with friends, colleagues, school mates, and family members. Through Small Groups, young people get connected, experience a sense of belonging, and remain active in church because it is where their friends are. People like to be in a place where everybody knows their name. Besides that, they have something to do; they are not just sitting around, they have a mission, which is challenging. Young people like extreme challenges and there is nothing that unites youth more than a mission to accomplish.
A small group ministry in your church will help to keep young people in the church, while many others are reached for God. It will help to retain the ones inside and to bring more from the outside.
