Master Guides in Greater New York Conference

The Master Guide Program is at the highest level of Adventist Youth Ministries. You could well say that it is the PhD of Youth Ministries within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its curriculum is designed for youth and adults (ages 16 and up) and emphasizes in-service training and active involvement. It teaches new skills and helps to develop different methods for successful leadership in Youth Ministries, most specifically in the areas of Pathfinders and Adventurers.

THE MASTER GUIDE PROGRAM IN THE GREATER NEW YORK CONFERENCE

Considerations and Guidelines

1. If Instructor does not wish to present Candidate for Investiture, he/she reserves the authority to allow or not to allow the candidate to take the Conference examination. Instructor with the support of 2 staff members will have the option of not presenting candidate for investiture.

2. In order for the candidate to be eligible for Final Examination, candidate must have an attendance record of at least 85%.

3. There will be a specific model to be followed for the binder, each item will be given certain amount of points; an index must be provided at the beginning of the binder. Binders will not be accepted after the deadline, the day of the Master Guide Examination.

4. Book reports and workshop reports must be computer generated; only class notes and honor work will be accepted handwritten. (Font Times New Roman; size 12; double space; margins 1 inch top, and side, 1.5 inch bottom. A footer including page # and person’s name must be included in each page).

5. The final grade of the class will be determined as follows: Attendance 30%, Binder 30%, Final Exam 40%. A minimum of 70% is required for investiture.

6. Instructors must attend the meetings, this way the class will not be in the dark regarding regulations, guidelines, and agreements.

7. Deadlines will be upheld by Youth Ministries Director and Instructors; this will enable our candidates to be very responsible leaders.

8. Each instructor must submit a class syllabus or curriculum with the meeting place and staff members’ information, at the beginning of the calendar year.

9. In order to receive the full Chevron the Master Guide/Master Guide Candidate must be invested from all Pathfinder Classes (if wearing the Green Master Guide Suite) or invested of all the Adventurer Classes (if wearing the blue Adventurer Master Guide Suite). Unless the Master Guide has been invested in all the preceding classes he/she will wear the Master Guide Star.

10. A Master Guide Candidates Dedication will be held for all the Master Guide Candidates in each class at the Youth Ministries Leadership Retreat.

11. Re-certification for Master Guides will take place every 4 years. In order to be re-certified each Master Guide must provide proof of:

  • Record of service for each year during the four year period (signed by Club Director and Pastor)
  • Record of Camporee Attendance (at least one camporee per year signed by Youth Director)
  • Record of Attendance to one “Continuing Education” Event per year (Signed by Youth Director).

12. Wilderness camping will be required for every class; a report of the camping must be included in the binder.

13. Master Guide Candidates must get the full uniform (Suit) and wear it properly for investiture and thereafter, at Pathfinder, Adventurer, and Master Guide Events and functions.
