MEMORANDUM

FROM: Pastor Jose H. Cortes Jr.

Director of Adventist Youth Ministries

TO: Church Pathfinder Director

Church Adventurer Director

Greater New York Conference of the Seventh-dayAdventistChurch

DATE: December 8, 2006

SUBJECTS: (1) Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress, January 19-21, 2007; (2) Calendar of Events for 2007; (3) Evangelism Emphasis during 2007; (4) Pass Information to New AY Leader in your Church; (5) Master Guide Classes for 2007

1. Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress (January 19-21, 2007 @ Tranquil Valley Retreat Center, New Jersey): This is a new initiative in the history of our Conference. (This event will take the place of the one-day Orientation we used to have in January, each year and of the Youth Ministries Leadership Retreat). This is the reason why it is so important that leaders in all areas of Adventist Youth Ministries attend this congress (Pathfinder, Adventurer, Master Guide, PLA, PIA, AY, Teens, Young Adult, Collegiate, Bible Bowl Coaches & participants, National Service Organization Representative, Youth Elder, Youth Choir Leader, Adventist Youth Leaders, and Adventist Youth Leadership Certification Candidates). Youth and Young Adults who do not have a leadership position, but are interested or have the potential, or whom you think may be helped by this event, are also encouraged to register and attend. It will be a very powerful, youthful, and spiritual Congress.

Anyone planning to take a Master Guide, PLA, PIA class next year, must make plans to attend the event and must participate in the Dedication Ceremony, which will take place during the event. Both, the Pathfinder Basic Staff Training (PBST) and the Adventurer Basic Staff Training (ABST) will be offered there. For those leaders who have already taken these two basic trainings there will be more advanced workshops offered.

We will have four different tracks: TRACK 1 for Pathfinder, Adventurer, Master Guide, PLA, PIA Leaders; TRACK 2 for AY, AY, Teens, Young Adult, Collegiate, & NSO; TRACK 3 for Bible Bowl Coaches & Participants; TRACK 4 for Youth Evangelism and Preaching, this track will deal with all types of evangelism, including small groups for teens and young adults, it will also deal with sermon preparation, sermon delivery, and public evangelism. Over 100 workshops and seminars will be presented over the weekend.

There are different registration packages to choose from:

FULL REGISTRATION $95.00 (includes Registration, Event Package, T-shirt, Lodging, 5 Meals)

WEEKEND WITHOUT LODGING $60.00 (includes Registration, Event Package, T-shirt, 5 Meals) we have provided hotel information and special rates for anyone who prefers to stay at a nearby hotel. You must make your own reservation directly with the hotel.

WEEKEND WITHOUT LODGING & MEALS $30.00 (includes Registration, Event Package, T-shirt)

SABBATH ONLY WITH MEALS $ 49.00 (includes Registration for Sabbath only, Event Package, T-shirt, and 3 meals)

SABBATH ONLY WITHOUT MEALS $25.00 (includes Registration for Sabbath only, Event Package, T-shirt)

The flyer for the event is attached, please post it and promote the event in your church.

2.Calendar of Events for 2007: We are including a sheet with all of the calendar information for the year 2007. Please, take these events into consideration, as you plan your local church calendar. The official colorful Adventist Youth Ministries Department 2007 Calendar will be distributed at the Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress. Each AY, Adventurer, and Pathfinder Church Director will receive one at that time.

3. Evangelism Emphasis during 2007: This is a year in which, we are hoping to have all of the churches of the Conference involved in Youth and Young Adult Evangelism. We would like to see each church begin a Small Group for Teens (13-17) and a separate Small Group for Young Adults, College, & University Students (18-35). Small Groups have proven to be one of the most effective methods to grow the church and keep the members, faithful and active. This is why we would like to encourage you to follow this plan with your Tees and Young Adults, non stop, at least one meeting a week for the entire year.

Training and Materials will be provided by our Department at the Adventist Youth Evangelism and Leadership Congress. The launching date for the Small Group Ministry, conference-wide is February 17, 2007.

During this year we would also like to see each church hold a local, one-week Public Evangelistic Series, where the young people do the preaching. The date provided for this Evangelistic Week is March 24 to March 31, 2007. Then, from May 5 to 12, we are planning to have one or two big Youth Evangelistic Series in each area of the Conference (Bronx, Brooklyn/Staten Island, Long Island, Manhattan, and Upstate.

In June 23, 2007; we are planning a big Youth Evangelism Rally, which will take place at public open place, Central Park, Flushing Meadows, or perhaps a big Park in the Bronx. For this rally we would like to gather around 10,000 Adventist Young people, Pathfinders, Adventurers, and adult supporters to witness to the city through music, preaching, and Community Sabbath Projects.

From now on, begin to make plans to be an active part of the Youth Evangelism “Xplosion” in Greater New York, during 2007.

4. Pass Information to New AY Leader in your Church: As the year closes, I would like to thank you for the service you have provided to the young people of your church and for supporting the Conference-wide Adventist Youth Ministries Movement. If you have been chosen to continue, I pray that we will be able to work closely together during 2007. If by any chance, there is a new AY Leader in your church, I would like to request that you pass on this information and ask the new leader to check with us, via E-mail or telephone very quickly, that we may be able to establish contact and begin communicating right away. We would not want our young people to miss out in the great things of next year, just because they don’t have the information.

5. Master Guide Classes for 2007: Following there is a list of the official Master Guide Classes of the Greater New York Conference for 2007.
