Pastor Jose’s Update
11/22/06
After spending some time with the Lord and family today, I could not do anything else without writing this message to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving Day. Together with the good wishes for this wonderful holiday, I would also like to thank you for a year of blessings in Adventist Youth Ministries, here in Greater New York. Looking at the calendar, last December, it seemed like an impossible task; something we would never be able to accomplish. God gave us the health, and the energy and you gave the support and lots of hard work; and here we are at the end of 2006. We only have one big event left. Thank you for all of the support, hard work, attendance, encouragement, and love for our entire family and for Adventist Youth Ministries.
Joanne and I are also very grateful for the quick recovery Jose III has had after the surgery. God is very good with us. The individual prayers, corporate prayers at church, calls, and E-mail messages from many of you have also meant a lot, one more time Thank You.
Joanne and I are also very happy that the delegates at the 53rd Greater New York Conference Constituency Session saw it fit that we continue to work with you, leading the Adventist Youth Ministries Department for the next four years. We are also grateful to God and to you for this great privilege and awesome responsibility.
Following a little update on what’s coming up in the next few weeks.
UPDATE
1. Last Big Event of the Year for Adventist Youth Ministries (December 2 @ Salvation Army Centennial Auditorium): On this day, we will have the Consecration, Investiture, and Graduation Services for our Adventist Youth Leadership Certification and Master Guide Candidates. This will take place at the Salvation Army Centennial Auditorium, a super beautiful and elegant hall with capacity for over 1,500 people. The speaker for the Consecration Service is an excellent preacher for youth and young adults, Pastor Jason McCracken.
For this occasion we are inviting all of our Teens, Young Adults, College, University Students, Adventist Youth Society Leaders and Members to attend. We are also inviting each Master Guides, and all our Pathfinder, and Adventurer clubs to attend. The program will begin at 9:30 AM, with SabbathSchool, and it will continue at 11:00 AM with the Consecration Service. The Adventist Youth Leadership Graduation, which is a first in our Conference and I believe in the world, because this is a new program, and the Master Guide Investiture will begin at 4:00 PM.
We advise that everyone attending will come early to secure a seat. We are also requesting that anyone coming for the entire day brings a sack lunch (sandwiches, fruits, etc; please, nothing which needs to be warmed). Food will not be provided, but there will be space available to eat, outside of the sanctuary.
The best way to get there is through the Subway, for anyone driving, there is parking in the street, and private parking, as well. Someone there told me that the Adventists have never filled up the auditorium; I don’t know whether that’s true or false; please promote this event heavily in your church, so we can have our last Adventist Youth Ministries Event of the year overflowing with young people, as we usually do. The address of the Salvation Army Auditorium is: 120 West 14th Street, New York, NY10011
Posters and info have been sent all AY, Adventurers, and Pathfinder Leaders. In case you have not received it, you can do
2.Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress (January 19-21, 2007 @ Tranquil Valley Retreat Center, New Jersey): During 2007 the Adventist Youth Ministries Department of our Conference will focus especially on Evangelism. The format of our calendar has changed. This is the reason why, we will combine the Orientation that we’ve had at the beginning of the year, and a Leadership Retreat we’ve had in March with a new event; our I Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress which will take place for the weekend of January 19-21, 2007.
With this new initiative, we will still train the experienced leaders; give orientation to the new ones; provide the materials and calendars for the year; and besides that we will add a strong Evangelistic Component to the program, because we would like to make sure that, not only our leaders, but also our teens and young adults are able to lead people to Christ, conduct Small Group Bible Studies, and do public preaching.
The information will be coming to you next week. We have not only reserved the camp facilities, but we have also blocked rooms at a discounted event price in two of the hotels in the area, just in case that you prefer hotels facilities over the camp setting. Those who wish to stay in a hotel will have to make room reservations directly with the hotel. The registration can be made separate directly with us at the Adventist Youth Ministries Department.
Adventist Youth Society Leaders, Teen Small Group Leaders, Young Adult Small Group Leaders, Collegiate Ministry Leaders, Youth Choirs Leaders, Bible Bowl coaches and participants, Adventurer Leaders, Pathfinder Leaders, TLTs, Master Guides, Master Guide Candidates, PLA, PIA Candidates, Adventist Youth Leadership Certification Candidates, Youth Elders, youth and young adults from your church must attend this Congress.
